New Walmart Price Match Policy

I was informed last night that the policy had changed.

  • We will match Walmart.com prices for in-store purchases
  • The Store manager has the final decision on any Price Match

Walmart is expanding its online tool that compares prices on thousands of products with those of some of its competitors to cities nationwide in the next few months.

https://savingscatcher.walmart.com/dashboard

Below is an article about it.  It might be worth checking out.  Its not available in my area yet but maybe soon since it will be nation wide.

A Coupon Binder

This is my coupon binder.  I have a fancy one with a zipper and a strap.  Many people keep a simple binder and put it inside of a bag.  Personalizing a binder and adjusting it to your tastes and needs are important.

Inside of my binder, I keep my weekly ads.

I also have several dividers. Some of them are the cheap paper dividers, some are pocket dividers.  On each divider, I write a category. Meats, produce, dairy, grocery, snacks, beverages, frozen foods, paper goods, His self-care, Her self-care, pharmacy, cleaning and restaurant are the tabs that I have.

These are the coupon pockets.  This is the baseball card size. You can also find a coupon assortment which has several sizes. These make your coupons easy to organize and find while you are shopping.

A coupon binder can be quite a bit of work.  Coupons should be clipped and sorted into the binder weekly and the expired coupons need to be removed from the binder weekly.  This extra work often has huge payoffs.  The beauty of having spent extra time organizing your coupons in such a fashion is that you can go down clearance and sales isles and maximize your savings.  Many, many times I have come across items that are not advertised and they match up with a high value coupon and make the item completely free.  Everything from toothpaste and razors, to cereal and pet flea spray, I have found for free in a clearance isle because of my organized coupon binder.

Here are a few tips for keeping one:
1. Don't get behind on your coupon clipping.  It can become overwhelming if you have 8 circulars to clip out.
2. You can store coupons back to back inside the pockets so that you can see coupons on the front and back side of each page.
3. If you have identical coupons with different expiration dates, you can keep them in the same pocket, just put the one that expires first in the front.
4. As you are in the store, flip through your sections and compare all of your coupons with the sales in those isles.
5. Copy your stores coupon and comp policy and keep it in the back of your binder.
6. Hole punch your comp. shopping list and keep it in the front of your binder.
7. Pull out any coupons that you know you want to use during your shopping trip and slip them into a front pocket or divider pocket.
8. Keep your shopping list in your binder.
9. You can find the coupon organizer pockets in the craft/scrap booking isle.
10.  Baseball card organizers work well to organize coupons, too.

Savings Savings Savings

Matching sales, or as I call it, comping and coupons really can save you loads of money.  It saves you time if you don't like to run all over town trying to catch all the deals.  Today, my shopping trip at Walmart was a success. I purchased $179.94 of product,  minus the comp savings $59.83 and coupons $46.40. I only spent $73.71.  I do go to Walgreens because of the reward deals.  I bought $50.04 of product and paid $24.95 plus have 10200 balance reward for my next visit ($10.00).  ~ Ethel

Tip of the Day - An Organized Check-out

When you are comp. shopping and/or couponing, it is important to keep your product organized in a way that it makes the job of the cashier a little easier.  Trust me, this will greatly benefit you, especially in the cashier's attitude toward you and the speed in which your transaction is completed.  Keep all of the items that you will be comping together.  Have them checked out either at the beginning or the end of the transaction.  Be sure you have an organized list so that you can quickly tell the cashier the new price, the store the sale price is from and the date of the ad.  Although Walmart's policy has changed to make it easier, I still find it helpful to have any ads you are using with you.  I do still get asked if I have the ad.  It is faster for me to find the add than it is for the cashier to go to the service desk.
If you are using coupons, I find it easier to to place all of the items you are using coupons for, at the end of the transaction.  Sometimes a cashier has to pull an item out of a bag and look to see if it matches the coupon.  If the register doesn't accept it and it is correct, the cashier can still punch in the savings.  Any
bogo coupon items should be very last.  The cashier will have to write the price of these items on the coupon.  If it is the last item scanned, the price will be very easy to find.  I also find that it helps to have the bogo coupon scanned last as well.

Couponing Tip of the Day

Watch the cashier. When checking out pay close attention to the price screen to make sure everything rings up at the correct price. Also, make sure that the cashier scans all of your coupons. Coupons sometimes stick together or get dropped or the cashier will scan the coupon but not realize that it didn’t go through. Kindly point out that they missed one and they will correct it.
Check your receipt. BEFORE leaving the store look over your receipt to make sure everything rang up correctly and all of your coupons were scanned. If there is a problem take it to customer service immediately so they can fix it. If you leave the store and come back at another time then it might not be fixable. If the cashier missed a coupon and you notice right away it’s easy to see the mistake. But, if you come back later after several other coupons have been added to the cashier’s stack or the stack is gone then there is no way to prove that they missed a coupon.
I made this mistake and lost several dollars in savings.  It helps to have a partner to unload your cart while you do your price match and coupons so you can keep an eye on things.  I have been charged more than the products regular price becouse i didn't pay attention and I aslo have had coupons that were not taken off.  This is very dissappointing if you don't catch it off hand.

How to make a coupon binder

Organizing coupons in a binder by category requires a few hours of time each week to clip and sort       coupons.  I usually spend an hour to 90 minutes on a Sunday evening.
This method makes preparing to shop quick and easy because coupons are already clipped and organized!  Plus, when you find a clearance item in the store, it only takes 20 seconds to flip to the right category and find the needed coupon.

Use Baseball Card Holders to hold clipped coupons (Find at Target, Walmart, eBay, etc). Spend no more than about $5 for 30 pages. Most binders need around 60 pages.
Label you pages by sections I use stick on tabs.  For example … Air fresheners, Baby,
Cleaners, Dish soap, Laundry, Baggies/foil, Health, Make up, Hair care, Body wash/soap,       lotion/lip, paper towels, toilet tissue, ect.  I use 2 binders one for my food products and one for my non-food.  What ever works best for you.  You can put your food in the front of you binder and non-food in the back.

I use an old zip up note book that was laying around from my highschool children It is handy because it has zipper pouches which is handy for scissors, pens, highlighters ect.  The zipper also helps keep coupons in side when you accidently drop it,  (That would be me ).  But a binder like pictured above will do just fine.  ~ Ethel

Couponing Tip

 Finding the right Cashier
I don’t want this to sound bad, but truth is, and you can ask anyone who uses coupons, that your cashier will make or break your coupon shopping trip. Finding the right cashier, is simply making sure that you get a cashier that is coupon friendly, and knows what they are doing.
There are times that I have been coupon shopping, and when I try to use coupons, the cashier acts like I am stealing or taking money straight from their pockets. . . .After a while you will know which cashiers to go to.
I  find the young men &women are great.  Most of the older women who are interested in learning couponing are great.   You don’t want to get an inexperienced new hire that doesn’t know how to work the register yet, so watch for a minute before you choose a check out aisle, and see if they look like they know what they are doing, or if they are fumbling around and taking a long time.
I could go on and on about the experiences I have had with different cashiers. . If you do get a good cashier that was nice to you and was able to help you without any or little problems, then you want to remember them and go back to that same cashier next time.
Get to know your cashiers and talk to them a lot. Build a friendship with them and that will often help you as well. ~ Ethel
